Ask Shadowrun

Welcome to Shadowrun’s weight loss question/answer section

Why do we need this page? Because if I always have so much questions about weight loss and never anybody to answer directly, it must be the same for you too. I often try to answer my question through reading and sometimes it works but most of the time they stay un-answered. To be able to ask someone who have been through the same issues and won’t judge me was an offer that I couldn’t refuse.

It was Shadowrun’s great idea and I am happy that all of us can benefit from it. So please if you have any questions for Shadowrun ask it in a comment on this page and she will be happy to answer!

A special thanks to Shadowrun for accepting to contribute to my blog even if she is all busy with her own!

  1. Here I go with the first question that has been in my mind for ever! Do you still have to count calories and be so careful with food all the time after 13 years?

  2. Yes. I still keep track of how many calories I take in a day. But I don’t track it on paper anymore. I mentally review what I’ve eaten for each meal so that I know approximately how many calories of ice cream I can have. lol
I also tend to eat the same meals every day so there really isn’t that much thinking involved anymore. After this many years, I know how many calories are in certain foods, so it’s definitely easier.
I find that I don’t have to be quite as careful anymore though either. If I have a cupcake here or there, or go out to eat for some yummy barbecue pork, it doesn’t affect me. I just go back to ‘normal’ after that and keep my usual exercise routine up.
I’ll write a blog about how I transisitioned to maintaining my weight as opposed to losing it. And I’ll try to get more in depth about my eating habits now.
Hope that answered your question!! :)

  3. I have another question for you: I have just been eating so much bad food on my vacation without restriction. Does it means that I have “reset” my body and it should be easier to lose for a while?

  4. Yeah – it’s very possible that once you start cutting back on calories again, and exercising, you’ll lose a good amount of pounds again. But it doesn’t sound like you overdid the calories on vacation – either that or you walked it all off!
After I reached my goal and began maintaining my weight, I would always be nervous about eating a big meal at a restaurant, but I found that if I occasionally ate out, I actually lost more weight! I think my body was burning more calories to burn off the extra food it wasn’t used to getting, and so I lost. Who knows the reason why, but that experience is what makes me believe all the articles that say make sure you’re eating enough calories, and make sure you vary the amount of calories you’re taking in. Your body likes guessing – with food, with exercise – it just doesn’t like guessing whether or not you’re starving it. ‘Cause then it’ll just hold on to your weight!
So to answer your question: Yes. I think it will be easier. My suggestion is to not go into it full steam however, and cut WAY back. Instead, just go back to your normal calorie intake, which I would guess for you is about 1300-1400 calories, and you should see the pounds fall off.
Hope you’re excited about getting back to it!
